GOD, THE HOLY TRINITY
Values and Attitudes – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- develop an awareness and appreciation of God’s love for us
Knowledge – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- identify that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Skills – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- demonstrate the Sign of the Cross and pray in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
CREATION
Values and Attitudes – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- develop an awareness and appreciation of God making each of us a special person
- show and develop a sense of wonder and awe for the gift of God’s creation
Knowledge – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- communicate that they are created and loved by God
- describe various aspects of God’s creation, including people, plants and animals
Skills – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- demonstrate through word, symbol or art impressions of self
- demonstrate through word, symbol or art an appreciation for “our wonderful world”
THE CHURCH
Values and Attitudes – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- develop an awareness and appreciation of the Bible as the Church’s book and to know that we should listen to its stories with reverence
- develop an awareness and appreciation that they belong to God’s family, the Church
Knowledge – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- identify principal figures from the Bible both the Old and New Testaments
- identify the Church as a community of believers who gather to pray and celebrate
Skills – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- listen and respond to Scripture stories through word, symbol or art
- Identify key features of their classroom prayer place and of the church building.
LITURGICAL YEAR
Values and Attitudes – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- develop an awareness and appreciation of the major Seasons and celebrations in the Church’s liturgical year
- develop an awareness and appreciation of Sunday as the Lord’s Day
Knowledge – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- identify how the Seasons of Advent, Christmas and Easter relate to the life of Jesus Christ
- identify that Sunday is a time to gather with other members of God’s family for liturgy
Skills – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- demonstrate through word, symbol or art a personal response to Advent, Christmas and Easter
- demonstrate through word, symbol or art a growing familiarity with the symbols and rituals of the Mass
THE MORAL LIFE
Values and Attitudes – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- develop an awareness and appreciation of Jesus wanting us to love and care for others
- develop an awareness and appreciation of prayer, especially the communal experience of liturgy
Knowledge – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- list the ways in which Jesus loved and cared for others and identify his call to “Come, follow me”
- express an understanding that God is always with us
Skills – It is intended that the students will be able to:
- demonstrate through word, symbol or art the ways in which Jesus’ actions can be applied to our own lives
- pray personally and communally prayers that are both traditional and spontaneous
God, The Holy Trinity
- God loves us.
- God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
- We show this in the Sign of the Cross.
- Jesus is the Good Shepherd who loves us.
- Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
- Jesus, lived in a family with Mary and Joseph – the Holy Family.
- Jesus died and rose again.
- Jesus appeared to his friends after he rose from the dead. Mary Magdala,
- Breakfast on the Beach.
- The Holy Spirit is with us.
Creation
- God made the world to show his love.
- God made all the animals
- God made me. God loves me
- My family is a special gift from God.
The Church
- I belong to my Church family
- The Church is a very special prayer place with a tabernacle, altar and lectern.
- God speaks to us in the Bible, which is the Church’s book.
- We learn about our faith family: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jonah, David
- God speaks to us through his Church.
- Mary was asked to be the mother of Jesus.
Liturgical Year
- Holy Week: The washing of the feet and the Last Supper.
- Easter Sunday: we celebrate Jesus rising to a new life.
- Pentecost: God’s Holy Spirit is with us
- Advent we prepare for Jesus at Christmas.
- Christmas: we remember the birth of Jesus.
- The shepherds came to visit the baby Jesus
- Feast of the Annunciation.
The Mass
- Sunday is a special day for Christians who gather together to celebrate the Mass.
- At the Last Supper Jesus taught us how to celebrate the Mass.
- Jesus is present with us when we celebrate the Mass.
The Moral Life
- Prayer is speaking, listening and singing to God.
- We pray at Mass, with our families and at school.
- Jesus wants us to pray often, at any time and in any place.
- Jesus wants our love of God and others to grow.
- Jesus wants us to follow him.
